The “2011 Program” “Collaborative Innovation Center for Rail Transit Safety” led by Beijing Jiaotong University is one of the first 14 collaborative innovation centers identified by the State. Beijing Jiaotong University has entered the top 100 of “QS BRIC ranked” for three consecutive years, and 6 disciplines have entered the top 400 of the QS World University ranked.
Relying on the talents and technical advantages of Beijing Jiaotong University, after years of accumulation and development, our institute has become an institute with the strong technical force, reasonable structure of talent, complete professional facilities and advanced design methods and reached advanced level among the domestic industry of China in quality assurance systems and other aspects. As a combination of production, learning, research, in addition to make outstanding achievements in design and teaching, the institute has also done well in the scientific research. Our design team covering many professions such as urban planning, rail transportation, architectural design, environmental art, digital media, industrial design and some others, has formed a complete industrial chain of design. As well as forming its own distinctive characteristics in the eco-city, beautiful villages and green building design, it formed a design team which is unique, united, efficient and innovative. In recent years, it has cooperated extensively with related research institutes and design teams at home and abroad, and has made great achievements in the research and design of beautiful villages, intelligent cities, medical endowment real estate, BIM and GIS integration, and green and solar buildings.
On the platform of the institute, through the integration of production, teaching and research, the advantages of Beijing Jiaotong University are brought into full play, it establishes a good social reputation in the aspects of urban planning and architecture design, integrated land development along urban rail transit, urban transportation hub design, urban ecology and landscape environment design, Project advisory planning, urban development strategy research and other fields. In recent years, the institute launched a wide range of cooperation with the foreign research institutions and design agencies, it expands full cooperation with the University of Cincinnati in the United States, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Berlin University of Technology in Germany. It has also achieved fruitful results in many fields such as rail transit and regional development, traffic and urban planning, ecological and landscape protection, building informatization and industrialization, and green building research and design. It has also established a good social reputation in the project advisory planning, urban development strategy research and other fields. The Institute has established contacts with more than 10 international academic institutions and it is the secretariat of the Regional and Town Planning Commission of the China Association for Regional Science and the World Bank's registration and advisory body.
The institute has a series of foreign cooperation research platforms, including the Beijing Jiaotong University - University of Cincinnati Future Cities Co-Laboratory, the Beijing Jiaotong University - the University of North Carolina Consortium for Urban and Regional Transportation, Sino-Euro Sustainable City and Building Development Centre, Space Syntax -UPDI Co-Laboratory and so on.
The Future Cities Co-Laboratory is jointly established by Beijing Jiaotong University Urban Planning and Design Institute and the School of Architecture, Art, Planning and Design of the University of Cincinnati. The original intention of the laboratory was that, regardless of the city of China and the United States, the future of a beautiful city and high-quality urban life is the common dream of the research workers and government policy makers. The purpose of the laboratory is to strengthen the scientific research cooperation in urban and construction areas of China and the United States, and to promote the exchange, teaching and platform construction of the scholars. The co-laboratory will use information technology, data technology and other new technical means for urban research, and build a research platform for creating a better future urban environment. The co-laboratory will focus on the application of new technologies, new methods and new ideas in the field of urban and construction under the background of large data, based on the principle of "transnational alliance, cross-border integration, inter-school opening and collaborative innovation". And the co-laboratory will be built as an open, interdisciplinary and innovative research platform to promote cooperation between Chinese and American cities and construction related fields. The laboratory will focus on urban research information technology, and the two key directions of the construction of the parametric design, and provide a future-oriented, forward-looking communication platform for Chinese and American students.
Beijing Jiaotong University - University of North Carolina Consortium for Urban and Regional Transportation aims to provide support for the cooperation and visiting scholars and other projects in the field of urban and regional transport planning. The Center will create opportunities for the collaboration of faculty and graduate students from Beijing Jiaotong University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, as well as promoting collaborative research. The Center will also share research experiences with scholars from around the world and deepen the understanding of urban and regional transport in China and around the world. The establishment of Beijing Jiaotong University - University of North Carolina Consortium for Urban and Regional Transportation will promote the cooperation of the University of North Carolina with Beijing Jiaotong University in the fields of teaching, research and training, and promote the development of urban planning and architectural disciplines. Specifically, the center will carry out academic research and practice project cooperation on the development of urban agglomeration and metropolitan area, integration of land use and transportation planning, and invite well-known experts from relevant international areas to train on topics such as coordinated urban traffic development. The center aims to draw lessons from the international experience, and to draw lessons from the problems in the development of urban agglomeration and metropolitan area in China.
